Well, what a surprise! All the well wishing from family and friends on my birthday. Funny I don't feel all that old. Just a few aches & pains. I count my blessings every day.
The plant trip was successful so far. We managed to dig up two very fine specimen Camellias and expect to plant them tomorrow. Hopefully I'll learn how to post pictures to share.
Tonight we are going to a Basque dinner (family style) with a group of our friends to celebrate.
Thanks again everyone for all the comments and such.

Well...what an honor to be your first link.
What color are the camellias that you got?
And...No!!!! You are not old. Hope I didn't offend you with all that old stuff on your Birthday. I just like to kid around. Laughing keeps you young, happy & healthy.
Camellias are still my favorite.
They do not grow here because it is too cold for them and if they do grow here they are not as lovely as those grown in my thoughts of them in Alhambra.
So, please tell us what a Basque dinner consists of. French-style food? Spanish-style food? Sounds interesting, though, and we hope you had a fun time with your friends.
P.S. You're not that old -- just getting there along with the rest of us.
My son, Brian, just brought it to my attention that you are only 10yrs older than himself....his exact words were "I didn't know that Gilbert was so YOUNG, mom."
Where are you Gil? We hope you had a nice birthday party and a nice weekend.
We miss your smiling face. Say "hi" to wifey for us.
I check your site daily...How are the camillias doing in their new environment? Are they still living? I remember how much I used to love them...their blossoms are so beautiful.
Boy, it's something keeping up with everybody.
I guess when I retire I will be able to devote more time to blogging. I am trying to keep up & enjoy reading daily.
In answer to the questions:
The camellia on the right,Jack, is Red and white and the other, Ruth, is white.
They are are named, in case you're wondering, for the couple that own the ranch that they came from.
The Basque dinner that night consisted of 18 different dishes served family style. The chef, Dallas, opens the restaurant only on the weekends & cooks only one meal a night, usually something different. On the night we were there they sevred smoked beef, lemon chicken w/ orange rice, tapas, tomatoe bisque soup, just to name a few of the dishes. The best way I can describe it is country style where everybody just digs.
Well gotta go now, and I don't feel old. I'm just trying to keep up.
A couple of other things...
I too remember the camellias in southern California when we were youg & growiing up. They lined the driveway at my uncle Ralph's.
Also the picture of Dennis & Gene reminded me to tell you, Bro, I visited with Gene up here at his daughter's house not long after you had mentioned that I was working w/ his son-in- law here at poly.
Gil, Your're right! Keeping up with these blogs and checking out the new comments is a full-time job. I can't even keep up with them myself.
My own blog comments come straight to my email & they're no problem...it's just all the rest, that are hard to keep up with, but I do the best I can.
